Building Creative Education for the Future

We did it.

It's been nearly a year since we launched our Australian accredited programs at CG Spectrum, and while it took longer than I would have liked, we finally achieved THE marketing milestone.

Our social ads are getting trolled.

Haters will hate. Notable though was that some of the comments hit on a sentiment many potential students ask when entering the creative fields: Can you guarantee me a job at the end of my studies?

That answer is no.

It’s not that we wouldn’t like to or don’t do everything we can to make it happen, but creativity is, and will likely always be a competitive field. For those called to it, however, it can be extremely rewarding. To paraphrase the line from Maverick:

"It's not what I am, it's who I am."

Without getting into the debate on the health of the phrase, many of us couldn't see ourselves doing anything else. As an education provider, we can’t guarantee any specific outcome. But for people who also feel called to these fields, here’s what we deliver.

Relevant Curriculum

Accredited education is an interesting space. While regulation certainly isn't all negative, it does create complexity and requirements that many educational providers find challenging. Continual change in the creative industries creates a need for flexibility and engagement to stay at the forefront of what students need.

With the creative industry degrees at CG Spectrum, we've aimed to do just that by starting with a core curriculum designed from the ground up to incorporate relevant knowledge and theoretical frameworks that educate artists to be effective in their careers and over the long term. None of that matters if you can't get your in the door. So we've paired this with focused and specialized training to ensure the overall knowledge is supported by real skillsets currently being hired. Half of our degrees are focused on the direct skill sets needed, and no filler is to be found. It is the premise on which the school was founded and we're now extending that into a full degree.

Industry Mentorship

CG Spectrum was founded on industry mentorship and now we're expanding that to its newest expression. There is that typical saying, "Those that can't do, teach.", but the opposite can also be true. Being a good practitioner doesn't always translate to instructional ability.

So we've expanded our instructors to provide the best of both. We've always been known for industry mentors and now they're paired with experienced academics within each area. Tangible, durable skills delivered in an intimate class size ensure students have the best possible outcome.

A successful educational experience with skillsets to take them where they would like to go.

Community

It’s challenging to articulate the power of community. Akin to Henry Ford’s “faster horse” comment, it needs to be experienced before the value becomes apparent. And while it's unusual to hear from a student who knows they need this upfront, community is powerful as an aspect of an overall education journey. This isn't simply a place to ask questions, although you can, it is a truly connected campus that has spawned clubs, sparked friendships, and grown funded game companies. We're all looking for a place to belong, and at CGS we aim to create just that. A home from which an educational journey can embark.

Sykosan for CG Spectrum

So after waxing poetic, is there a job at the end? Well, that's still not something we can say with certainty.

Frankly, anyone who does is selling something else.

Creative jobs are competitive and difficult to get into, but also awesome. We provide the knowledge, experienced mentorship, community framework, networking opportunities, studio connection, and career coaching to provide all the resources possible to make that happen.

The rest will be up to you. Dig in.
